How To Get a Gambling Franchise - Smart Money

I recently caught up to Gintama, and I think you should make it your 2021 goal to at least start it. Here's why I think that.

I know we've all seen Gintama floating around on the internet so often. People saying "watch Gintama!" and posting funny clips of the show all over reddit. I want to take a slightly different approach as to why I loved the show so much. Most of the time you hear, "it's really funny! best comedy!" with the additional "the serious moments are so good!" but I want to share my thoughts on why both aspects of it are so good, and why they work so well together. This post will not contain any major or specific spoilers.
So to start things off, how is the comedy in Gintama? I will warn you ahead of time, Gintama is not afraid to be vulgar. If you're turned off by jokes about private parts and poop, it's not the central focus of the humor but there is a lot of inappropriate humor. There is also a ton of pop culture references, by which I mean one episode may reference about 20 different things. Sometimes there will be entire mini-arcs (3 episodes) dedicated to one parody, something like JoJo's Bizarre Adventure or Dragon Quest. There is also a ton of meta humor. They are not afraid to break the fourth wall, talk about the production of the show, voice actors, filler episodes, etc.
Do you need to understand all the references to enjoy it? I would say it certainly helps if you have a somewhat strong grasp on Japanese culture, popular game and anime franchises, etc, but it's not mandatory. I've seen people go back and forth on this point, and while having a comprehensive knowledge of everything in Japanese media and growing up in Japan will definitely help the enjoyment, I found that with my limited knowledge it was still very fun. Even if I didn't get a reference it was still a silly moment for me, regardless if I knew who they were talking about or not. Plus, if you really want to, you can look up the references later to have an "a ha!" moment and learn more about the pop culture scene.
All of the characters are unique and enjoyable! Everyone has their own personality and their own dynamic with each other. You have the lazy yet (usually) dependable Gintoki, the straight man Shinpachi who's the butt of a lot of jokes, the vulgar overconfident Kagura, the leader of the rebels who is serious to a fault even in ridiculous situations Katsura, I could go on and on. Every character has their own vibe, their own appeal, their own dynamic with other characters, and their own running gags. Every time you see one of them on screen you know what to expect and it always delivers in a satisfying way, to the point where sometimes you'll see two characters interact and you're like, "oh man how will they interact?" It's really fun!
So, comedy aside, what is the plot of the show? The show takes place in Edo, specifically Kabukichō which is an entertainment and red-light district of Shinjuku in real Japan. There are host and hostess clubs, shops, nightclubs, restaurants, casinos, you name it. Aliens known as Amanto attacked Japan and took over, starting the sword ban. Samurai are far and few between and those who remain get by however they can. Enter the main character, Gintoki. A samurai who fought in the war against the invading Amanto, he still carries a wooden sword around and runs a business called Odd Jobs where he'll take on any task, from finding a kitten to stopping an invasion.
It's a very simple premise but it builds up and pays off in great ways. The more serious aspects of the plot come from leftovers of the war, rebels that defy the current government, the police force (Shinsengumi) trying to keep order, and some darker shadows behind the scenes, the truth of the Amanto, and the teacher that raised Gintoki and a few other of the main characters. It leads to some really serious and oftentimes depressing moments in the series.
So, how good are the serious portions? The action portions of the show are a little scarce early on. There's definitely a heavier focus on the comedy. At episode 58 you get your first taste of the true action and plot of the series (yes, I know, that's quite a ways in). From there, there are more mini arcs of about 3-6 episodes each that cover some much more serious topics and push the main plot along and introduce new characters and concepts. There's some really hard hitting backstories for some of the characters as well, often in ways you wouldn't expect. It makes each character feel a bit more real. The choreography, music, and voice acting are all top notch.
How do the comedy and more serious topics blend? This is the main point of my post that I want to make, and I thank you for reading this far. The serious moments really let you see the characters in a more serious light (duh), while the comedy segments let you see them in moments of peace. They're allowed to laugh, have fun, do stupid shit, but when shit hits the fan it often feels like they need to power through it to see those peaceful moments again. The show doesn't make a big point of this, but it's definitely the factor that pulled me in. You wanna see our goofy main trio get past this terrifying moment and be able to joke around again. You want to see the side characters persevere and overcome the odds so they can see tomorrow and laugh along with the rest of the cast. You get invested in the characters during the funny moments, so the serious moments have a stronger impact.
The action and serious scenes are also littered with silly moments or one-liners that make the fights or moments feel more natural. Like Gintoki will drop a one-liner or do something dumb during a serious moment and it's like "yeah that seems about right." He'll make fun of an opponent's name, complain about getting hurt, yelling at the bad guy for overreacting, make dirty distractions to get away, etc. But it always comes back to a satisfying conclusion. The comedy and the action flow seamlessly. A perfect example would be this moment where he fails to make a serious entrance. There's also this story about a dog who was abandoned by his owner. I feel those are my two favorite examples of blending serious with comedy.
Later in the series, especially the last few arcs, the comedy takes a backseat for a much more serious plot. It really makes the stakes feel high and every character feels like a part of this world. It's super well done and I won't say more than that.
Have you been convinced to check out Gintama? It's definitely a long series to get into, but it's absolutely worth it. Try sticking to one episode a day or every few days and you'll always have something to look forward to. Just make sure to skip the first two episodes because they were made as a celebration of the manga getting an anime adaptation, and it expects you to know all the characters (and also just isn't that great). Episode 3 is the proper "episode 1" of the series and begins with the characters meeting for the first time.
Don't think of it as some colossal hurdle to complete, focus on the journey not the destination. Enjoy your ride through the crazy, hilarious, fun, and heartbreaking world of Gintama and I hope you all end up enjoying it! There's definitely a reason that everyone who's seen it regards it so well and now I can confidently say I do too. I'm really excited for the final movie!
Edit: I also want to add that all of Gintama (aside from specials and OVAs) is on Crunchyroll!

The Sorting Hat has changed his occupation from determining which Hogwarts student fits into which Hogwarts house, to determining who will win the big jackpot at this fantastic new online casino. Winner’s Magic is a brand-new online casino which first saw the light of day in May 2019. The online casino is owned by VitaMediaLabs ApS and operated by the well-known White-label-provider Aspire Global.
The website is available in an array of languages ranging from English to German, and also including Norwegian and Finnish. The availability of the casino in different languages means that more people can access the website in their native tongue making it more attractive to players from different corners of the world. Despite the internet reaching everywhere and the casino’s hard work to make it available in several different tongues, Winner’s Magic is restricted to players from Australia, France, Italy, and the United States as well as all countries where online gambling is prohibited by national and/or local law.
In another measure to make their casino available, safe, and trustworthy, Winner’s Magic Casino has acquired remote gambling licenses. This means that with the licenses their customers have an authority to turn to in case they are feeling mistreated. The gambling authorities set up rules and regulations which the online casino must follow to be licensed, the seriousness of such rules depends on the authority. The Malta Gaming Authority and the UK Gambling Commission are two of the toughest gambling authorities and Winner’s Magic is licensed with both, meaning that customers can feel safe when using this online casino.
The online casino also implements an encryption key (128Bit-SSL) to ensure that all private data, handed by the customer to the casino, is kept safe and far away from unauthorized eyes. Additionally, Winner’s Magic is also audited by an independent auditor iTech Labs. They ensure that the games available to play on the casino are random and fair.
Winner’s Magic does not only set out to be a fair and honest online casino experience, but they also want to offer their customers entertainment and fantastic bonuses and promotions. Winners Magic Casino Games

To keep players engaged to the online casino there must be a big variation of games for players to be entertained and thrilled. A casino’s game library can often make or break it. Being an Aspire Global operated online casino means that Winner’s Magic can offer their customers plenty of options not only when it comes to the number of games but also the number of different categories. Winner’s Magic offers seven categories where players can find games “Featured Games”, “New”, “Video Slots”, “Classic”, “Casino Games”, “Scratch Cards”, and “All Games”.
The biggest category (if you disregard the “All Games” category) is the “Video Slot” category which includes over 400 games. These games are supplied to the casino by some of the most well-known and highly regarded game suppliers in the industry. Some of the most popular slot machine games include “Book of Dead”, “Fruity Friends”, “Wolf Riches” and “Aztec Gold”. These games are supplied by greats within the game supplier industry such as NetEnt, Microgaming, Play’N Go, PariPlay, and BetSoft. The “Video Slots” category also includes jackpot games such as “Bonanza”, “Aztec Gold – MEGAWAYS”, and “Royal Seven XXL”. When a winner hits a jackpot, other players will be able to see their success as Winner’s Magic has a banner with the latest winners on the side of the page that shows the games.
Slot machines can also be found under the category “Classic”, which include titles considered classic slot machines. Some of the titles include “Royal Seven”, “Wild Elements” and “Hot Spin - Deluxe”.
It is more and more popular today for game suppliers to create games inspired by the popular culture. There are games such as “Mission Cash” or “John Hunter and the Aztec treasure” who are reminiscent of character that exist in today’s popular culture (in this case they remind us of James Bond and Indiana Jones). Other games are not just inspired by popular culture but are a part of the franchise such as “Game of Thrones – online slot” or “Jumanji – Video slot”. For players interested in these types of games Winner’s Magic will not be a disappointment as these games and many more are available.
Under the category “Casino games” players will be able to find a selection of top-rated table games with titles such as “Sapphire Roulette”, “Blackjack – Multihand VIP”, and “Baccarat”. This category also includes “Casino Patience” and “Football Studio”. The category includes close to 70 games and it is also under this category that players can find Live Casino games. The Live Casino Games transport the players from wherever in the world they are to a real casino with professional dealers and tables with plenty of other players. The Live Casino games are supplied by one of the most well-known Live Casino game suppliers on the market – Evolution Gaming. Evolution Gaming set themselves apart by not only offering top-quality games, but they also offer many of their games in different languages. Play Roulette in Finnish, German or Norwegian if you dare!
The final category of games available at Winner’s Magic is “Scratch Cards”. This category includes over 60 games. Some of the most popular titles include “Hit The Bank”, “Wizard of all”, “Bingo”, and “Scratch N’ Roll”. The games in this category are all a bit different but what they have in common is that some scratching is required to reveal a win.
We find it incredibly encouraging and exciting that a new casino such as Winner’s Magic offers their customer so many different options when it comes to games. We are also pleased to be able to inform our readers that this casino’s games are independently audited by iTech Labs to ensure that the results are random and fair, yet another point which we find to be very positive.

Winners Magic Casino Depositing and Withdrawing

One of the most important points, when a customer is looking for a new casino, is what payment methods are available for depositing and withdrawing. The online casino must offer their customer methods which are both more local like (Zimpler) and international like Credit/Debit Card.
Winner’s Magic has taken this into account and therefore offer payment methods from the most well-known banking methods as well as some local banking methods. The minimum deposit is €10, and several currencies are accepted. For example, players can deposit Euros, Krona (Norwegian), as well as Canadian dollars and Pounds. The deposits almost exclusively take place instantly.
Once the wagering requirements have been met and the player is ready to withdraw their winnings, there are several methods which can be used. The most common thing is that the method used to deposit is used to withdraw, the only exception to this is when the deposit method is not available to withdraw then the player can choose to for example have the money transferred via Bank Transfer. There is a pending time of 24 hours on all withdrawals. The maximum withdrawal is €7.000/month and the minimum withdrawal for most methods is €10. The limit is in our opinion slightly low but understandable due to the newness of this online casino. There are no fees on withdrawal which is something we appreciate.
We believe that any casino that tries to make their banking methods as wide and accepting as possible have their customer’s best at heart, as can be seen by Winner’s Magic. Unfortunately, we do find that the withdrawal times are slightly slow as the fastest way to withdraw funds still requires three business days. This is not a problem limited to this casino but with most and is something we would love to see the industry change.
Another point which we find great about this online casino is that it implements a 128-bit SSL encryption key on all sensitive data. This means that whatever private information is sent by the customer to the casino is protected and safeguarded from unauthorized eyes. The casino also works hard to prevent fraud and therefore can demand additional verification of identity from the customer. In the case of Sweden, all customers must verify having reached the legal gambling age of 18. The customer will then have up to 30 days to verify their age if this is not done within the time limit the customer’s account will be shut down. In our opinion, any casino that goes the length to abide by the rules and regulations set up by different countries to safeguard the players, are good casinos.

Slotastic Casino Review

If you hear that an online casino site is called Slotastic, it’s only natural that you would think that the casino was all about slots. And while Slotastic definitely does have more than a few one-armed bandits for you to choose from, that’s not all they have to offer to fans of Internet gaming. There’s also great software, strong bonus offers and a wide variety of casino games, making this far more than a virtual slots parlor.

Slotastic Slots

Slotastic utilizes software from Realtime Gaming, a software provider that powers many of the world’s most popular online casino sites. RTG is known for providing stable, reliable software with an excellent selection of slots, games that place functionality over impressive graphics or high-profile licenses tied to movies, comic books or other popular franchises.
One of the strongest area for Slotastic is the large collection of progressive slots offered in their casino. Some of the most popular jackpot slots at Slotastic include:
  • Aztec’s Millions
  • Jackpot Cleopatra’s Gold
  • Jackpot Piñatas
  • Megasaur
  • Shopping Spree II
  • Spirit of the Inca
RTG is always adding new games to their slots collection that quickly show up at Slotastic and other casinos. These new additions bolster an already impressive group of slot machines. Here are some of the newest and most popular slots you can play at Slotastic:
  • Cash Bandits
  • Hillbillies Cashola
  • Lucha Libre
  • Pirate Isle
  • Treasure Tree

Slotastic Casino Promotions

All players at Slotastic online casino are awarded with a welcome bonus that could potentially earn you up to $500 in bonus funds. On your first deposit, you can take a 150% match of up to $300, while your second deposit comes with a 100% match of up to $200.
A set of standard terms and conditions apply to these and all bonuses offered at Slotastic. All deposit bonuses are subject to a 30x wagering requirement before you can withdraw any funds from your account. This wagering requirement increases to 60 times the bonus amount when talking about any no-deposit bonuses you might be given on the site. Similar rules also apply to the winnings you might earn from free spins offers, which are frequently offered on the site. It’s also worth noting that players from a number of countries aren’t available for bonus offers, including Greece, Poland, Russia, Sweden and the United Kingdom.

Other Games at Slotastic

Are you a casino veteran who enjoys spending time at the tables just as much as pulling the levers on slot machines? If so, don’t let the Slotastic name fool you: there are also plenty of other casino games available on the site. A few of the most popular table games at Slotastic are:
  • Blackjack
  • Baccarat
  • Caribbean Draw
  • Caribbean Hold’em
  • Caribbean Stud
  • Let ‘Em Ride
  • Pai Gow Poker
  • Roulette
  • Tri Card Poker
  • Casino War
Other casino games include Keno and Sic Bo, along with some fun scratch card options. If you enjoy video poker, you can also try these machines:
  • Aces and Eights
  • Bonus Poker
  • Deuces Wild
  • European Slot Poker
  • Jacks or Better
  • Joker Poker
  • Mystery Bonus Poker
  • Sevens Wild
While you can play all of these games while clearing a bonus, not all of them can be played while clearing bonuses. According to the Slotastic terms and conditions, only play on slots, keno and scratch cards is allowed while playing with bonus funds.

Slotastic Casino Software and Reputation

Slotastic offers players three different ways to play. First, you can download the casino right onto your computer, giving you instant access to all of the slots and other games in the casino on your desktop. Alternately, you can use the instant play version of the casino to play flash slots. This can be accessed right on the Slotastic website through any major web browser. Finally, there is a mobile option that is perfect for playing dozens of the most popular games in the casino right from your phone or tablet.
One thing you won’t have to worry about at Slotastic is the casino’s reputation. We’ve heard nothing about any significant problems at the casino, and when players have encountered minor issues, they have been resolved quickly and satisfactorily.

Final Verdict

Despite the name, Slotastic is an excellent choice for players whether they want to focus on slots or play a variety of different casino games. The one thing that might slow down fans of table games is the short list of options you’ll have if you take bonuses on the site; if you want to play blackjack, for instance, and you want to take a bonus, this probably isn’t the best option out there for you. But for slots fans and those want access to great RTG games, Slotastic is an excellent choice.

Lost Niagara Attraction? "Jungleland Golf"

Hey niagara!
After the community's warm response to my history posts here pertaining to Clifton Hill and the amusement industry, I thought I'd come to you all with some information I unearthed about a possible attraction lost to time. I hope now maybe your memories could again help fill some gaps in Niagara's rich amusement history.
I was digging around in the Canadian Trademark Database and found the name of the company that Bob Dunham operated the House of Frankenstein and Castle Dracula locations under. For a quick recap, there was chain of six of these attractions across North America, the first and flagship location of both the House of Frankenstein and Castle Dracula being the Niagara locations. The company he ran these under was called Waxattract, and Niagara artist Derek Costello provided the art, figures and animation for these attractions as well as much more.
In 1979, two years after the sixth and final location in the haunted house chain opened (Castle Dracula in Lake George, NY) Waxattract filed trademarks for "Jungleland Golf" and "Monsterland Golf". Both are listed as "For proposed use in Canada." Just a few months later both trademarks were abandoned. A year after that, Waxattract filed trademarks for a Jules Verne attraction with an animated dog barbershop quartet out front as well as an Arby's franchise. A few months later these trademarks were abandoned as well.
For these attractions to have had names and characters trademarked, they must have been far enough into development that art, business plans and structural drawings were likely already partially developed. That's interesting enough, but the story doesn't end there. I tried googling these attractions to find old news articles announcing upcoming attractions or building permits, but found nothing with the exception of Jungleland. In a 2002 growth plan for the City of Niagara Falls, a section discusses the construction of the parking garage for Fallsview Casino. It reads: "To accommodate parking in the event of a closure of the Allandale parking lot at the discretion of the City of Niagara Falls and/or the Jungleland parking lot." Adding fuel to the mystery, Jungleland Golf is the only of the above trademarks transferred to a new owner and renewed after being abandoned by Waxattract. Its transferred to an Herbert W. Cowan in 1980 and not inactivated until 1996.
I can't find anything on Jungleland Golf on the internet. No brochures, merchandise, postcards, photos or references outside of the 2002 growth plan. It's possible for this reason that the municipal parking lot referenced in the 2002 plan was simply the land that was proposed for Jungleland once upon the time, still being referred to as such by the city despite the attraction never being built, even under the trademark's new owner. It's also possible however that this municipal lot referenced was called such by the city because it used to be the land Jungleland sat on, and that this Herbert Cowan ran the attraction from 1980 to 1996 as the records indicate. Adding merit to the theory the attraction existed is the fact that there is a municipal lot about 100ft from the Fallsview Parking garage at the corner of Main and Fallsview. That would have been directly across the street from the Boris Karloff Wax Museum, which was in the parking lot of the Oakes Hotel.
This is significant because as I'm sure you guessed, The Boris Karloff Wax Museum was run by Bob Dunham/Waxattact. In fact, this too was recently unearthed due to a telegram auctioned off online. The telegram was sending condolences to Boris Karloff's wife after the actor's death in 1969 and was sent from Robert (Bob) Dunham of the Boris Karloff Wax Museum. Since the museum opened roughly a year before this, it seems like he owned it from the beginning, making it both Dunham's first attraction and likely Derek Costello's, pre-dating the House of Frankenstein by a year. If he owned an attraction directly across the street from the possible location of Jungleland, it makes sense he would develop more on empty land there after all the space on Clifton Hill was used up.
After heavy digging, I found 2 aerial shots of that area from the early 90s. What's now the municipal lot indeed has a tree filled area with some small structures around it. The photos are not clear at all being taking from the Skylon tower, and one was taken in the dead of winter under a good 3 feet of snow. This makes it impossible to make out any text, logos or even evidence of a mini golf, but whatever is there looks like it couldn't be much else. Does anyone remember this? It's not to be confused with Jungle Putt on Lundy's Ln. near Typhoon Lagoon, the 80s-era mini golf/arcade/Dairy Queen that was abandoned in early 2010s and eventually burnt. Jungleland would have been near the Seagram/Minolta Tower, specifically directly across from the Oakes Hotel and there between roughly 1980-1996, if it existed. Anybody remember anything?

Unusual Option Activity 06/08/20 EVRI, FTCH, EOG, PDD

Recap – Despite a huge gain on Friday, the SPY continued the bullish trend and ended up 1%. The Momentum plays on Friday were BHC and HPE. They finished at +6.55% and 4.37% respectively. If you played these in the after-hours market Friday you should have made out pretty well. Unfortunately, my limit orders were never filled. The Classic UOA picks of SABR and APA collectively did okay. SABR was quite a bit higher in the morning at 11.50 but proceeded to drop for the rest of the day ending at -1%. If you had a reasonable take profit that should have hit. The second pick, APA, ended up 9.77%.

My Impression : FTCH is presenting at the Deutsche Bank dbAccess 17th Global Consumer Conference 2020 June 11th, 2019.It had a large spike today, but has been as high as $16.59. The Calls at ask % looks pretty bullish to me. This is similar to FLEX, BHC, and HPE. This is mostlikely buying the rumor and selling the news. Looks solid to me, I bought shares AHs.

My Impression : Calls at ask % looks very bullish. 9x ADV. With the run up of PENN and DKNG I am amazed this fell through the cracks. It’s 52 wk high was $15. I don’t see any news on briefing to warrant the sharp increase.
Summary : Friday’s picks HPE and BHC ended up pretty well today. Keep in mind, both of these stocks have conferences coming up. BHC has the Goldman Sachs 41st Annual Virtual Global Healthcare Conference June 10th and HPE has the conference tomorrow. Keep this in mind if you held through today. Buying the rumor and selling the news is usually a safe bet.
Regarding the momentum stocks, EVRI and FTCH look solid to me. With the recent run up of gambling stocks EVRI seems all around solid for a shorter-term hold. I bought both EVRI and FTCH in after hours. As for the Classic UOA stocks, I’m not playing either of these but will likely do a call spread on TSLA tomorrow.
Thanks for reading.

[TIMELINE] Analyzing The Past to Predict the Future - Everything We Should Consider on the Road to GTA VI

[TIMELINE] Analyzing The Past to Predict the Future - Everything We Should Consider on the Road to GTA VI
[QUICK MOD NOTE] This post was originally posted by Lenlfc on GTAforums, original post here. ALL CREDIT GOES TO HIM FOR ALLOWING ME TO DO THIS. It's extremely detailed and extensive, but it also gives a full look at previous leaks and speculation about GTA V, RDR 2, and the upcoming GTA VI. It's well worth your read if you're at all interested in speculation and leaks for GTA VI, considering it has a lot of information about how Rockstar has done things in the past, and how they may do things with GTA VI. It also has all of the confirmed information we have for GTA VI, like everyone has been asking for. Enjoy!
LENLFC will also be updating his original GTAForum's post often when new, reliable information comes out that is worth adding to his timeline.
TL:DR: This is very long. Please don't be mean if you think I went too far. I just wanted to be as detailed as possible, and compile as much evidence and proof as possible, so we can work out the most accurate and likely scenario. I've never done anything like this before. So please be kind.
Hi. So, Red Dead Redemption 2 has come and gone. Feels like forever we waited for it. Hard to believe it released almost 4 months ago. It's that time when many of us will start looking forward to the next Rockstar game. I have been on this site since the first leaks for GTA V popped up online. In that time, I have watched fairly quietly, barely getting involved. I've read a lot, and enjoyed it all, but never actively helped out. I want to warn you all that this post will be pretty lengthy, and as I'm not a regular poster, my formating or writing may not be the best. But I'm a big fan of Rockstar Games, and have a weird fascination with remembering small things. So I wanted to try my best to compile everything we know about how Rockstar go about making their games, what they have done in the past and do some crazy conspiracy theory like deducing to try to predict when, where and how we can find clues to GTA VI, and when they may announce or release it.
Firstly, I'd like to credit and thank Dan Dawkins. Many of you may not know who he is, but long story short, he's a journalist, and back in July 2011 he wrote an article in the magazine PSM3. In the article he predicted many things about GTA V (some correct, some incorrect) he researched all the available data and pooled it together, and used that to speculate about GTA V. That was a massive influence on me growing up, on how to speculate responsibly and use common sense to work out where a game or series may go next. So thank you, Dan!

Now, onto the main topic. What do we know about GTA VI? Not a lot. Dan Houser recently said that they're thankful they're not releasing GTA VI while Trump is in office. While he's never actually quoted as saying they won't release it while Trump is in office, I think journalists used that for a catchy headline. But the point remains. GTA is heavily based on British satire of USA. The current political climate makes it very difficult for them to do this. If we take it literally, GTA VI won't release until 2021 or 2025, depending on how long he is in office. Unless I have my dates wrong. I'd be willing to bet they had 2021 in mind. However, my personal take on this was that Dan simply meant "thank god we're not releasing GTA VI in 2018" And knowing it'l take them years to even release their next game, Trump will no longer be President.
We also know Rockstar Games will make another GTA. And that is about it. If there is anything else concrete, that we know, that I have missed please let me know.

Here's where we start digging and look to the past, what Rockstar has done before and try our best to work out their timelines and how they go about things. Now, in order to do this, I'd like to begin with GTA V, as that is when Rockstar Games transitioned into the one big game every 5 years, as opposed to the game every year studio.
April 20th 2009 the first ever build for GTA V was created. I'm not sure if this is when development officially began, or just the date of the first build. Either way, I doubt there is much difference. They were busy working on TBoGT at that point, having just released TLaD 2 months prior. This was discovered from the Build Log. I will go into detail on this later. However this wasn't discovered until 2014, I just thought it was worth putting here to stamp the timeline.
The earliest rumors for GTA V began on July 26th 2010, with reports of Rockstar researching locations in and around Hollywood. Rockstar declined to comment on this, saying they don't comment on "rumors and speculation". To this day we still don't know if this was legit, or otherwise. However the game did end up being set in Los Santos. So it was either true or coincidentally correct.
Next came the domain name leaks on February 25th 2011. That date might be off by a couple of days, but the original GTA V Leak Topic has it dated to the 25th. (Fun fact, this is the leak and topic where I signed up to GTAForums!) Very GTA sounding website names. After GTA IV introduced the internet to us, it was no surprise to think GTA V would expand on that, and the domain names registered sounded right out of a GTA game. This was proven true, as the websites did appear in game.
On March 8th 2011 more fuel was added to the GTA V fire, when the codenamed "Rush" casting call was leaked online. Like the website, they sounded like something out of a GTA game.
This was further expanded on the 29th of March when Take Two put out a private casting call, further hinting at development on GTA V being well underway.
October 5th 2011 In an Asked & Answered article, 2 users asked about the next GTA, with Rockstar replying with the following
“When are we going to see a new GTA????? #bestgameever” - received via Twitter“When's the new grand theft auto coming out?” - received via Twitter
Big, big shout to all Grand Theft Auto fans worldwide who we know are anxious to hear about what’s next for the franchise but we don’t have any news at this time. All we can say is, right now, we’re focused on our next upcoming releases which are Max Payne 3 as well as L.A. Noire for PC, Red Dead Redemption Game of the Year Edition and Max Payne for mobile devices. When and if we have anything to report regarding the Grand Theft Auto franchise, you know that we’ll do so here at the Newswire or on our Twitter or Facebook.
And then it happened. GTA V was officially announced on October 25th 2011 at 12pm BST, linked below.
This announcement came only 20 days after saying the above on October 5th 2011
This goes to show that Rockstar can say one thing, then surprise us weeks later.
The first trailer then debuted on November 2nd 2011
Everything past this point, until release I feel is not relevant to this discussion. It is more to do with post announce schedules and marketing, and when to expect news or updates or trailers for an already announced major game. If this topic does well, I could add it, or put it in a spoiler box so it's optional detail. Otherwise the next points worth talking about come into play upon release, and where Rockstar go after this.
September 17th 2013 GTA V finally releases. We rejoice.
October 1st 2013, two weeks after the launch of GTA V GTA Online launches.
This is where it gets interesting and complicated. We know now that their next game was Red Dead Redemption 2. However, Rockstar weren't finished with GTA V. Many people claim that Rockstar stopped caring about their fans and gamers, citing images like these
You can actually pinpoint the year Rockstar discovered microtransactions.
Now, I bring these up, as it is important to understand just how Rockstar now operate. Love it or hate it, but GTA Online has allowed Rockstar to not release games as often. Allowing them to work on one game as Rockstar Studios, where they all work together, instead of separate teams, like Rockstar North (GTA) and Rockstar San Diego (RDR) for example. The income from GTA Online has seemingly allowed them to spend 5 years working on Red Dead Redemption 2, perfecting a masterpiece. Allowing them to make the game they wanted, and allowing them to take all the time necessary to innovate and make a living breathing world even more so than GTA V did.
Some time in January 2014 the GTA V Build Log was found. Apparently it was on the game disc, and dedicated fans dug into the files and found it. I bring this up, as it reveals some key interesting details. such as the date of the first GTA V build/when GTA V development began. This is important as we can use this information later to try to work out when they may start their next project.
Throughout 2014 Rockstar were hard at work developing the PC, PS4 & Xbox One versions of the game. I don't know how much work that would be, but they weren't simple upres versions of the game. They included new features and plenty of big enhancements. The PC version was delayed into 2015 for added polish. And leslie Benzies took a sabbatical on September 1st, for 17 months.
The next key detail to note is from January 2016, I think. Leslie Benzies leaves Rockstar North. I feel this is important to note, as it could have delayed a lot of Rockstars plans, as a lot of staff left with him, Rockstar would go on to deal with a lawsuit which could only be an unnecessary distraction. There was a topic here on GTAForums discussing it. Needless to say the whole situation was pretty shady and the details don't really matter too much.
Rockstar had also planned single player DLC for GTA V, multiple datamines suggested 3 packs, as well as Ash735 on Neogaf confirming this. We can take this with a grain of salt, but if it were made up, then it's a pretty dull and uninteresting thing to make up.
They had also promised Heists for GTA Online, which was quickly becoming very popular. I personally believe (And this is where speculation begins) that the SP DLC was the unfortunate victim in all of this. They HAD to get the next gen versions out, as if you're launching an online game, you can't rely on players sticking with old consoles when the next gen consoles launch only 2 months after GTA Online launches. They had to get Heists out, which were promised before the entire game even released. More so than the SP DLC, which was just a closing line on a Newswire article, albeit multiple times. And development on their next game ramping up, going into full production, combined with the restructuring of Rockstar North due to Leslie Benzies leaving... SP DLC may have been an unfortunate victim.

April 3rd 2014 Thanks to @EVOLUT7ON for bringing this to my attention. In a Q&A with DJ Whoo on BallerStatus, he allegedly reveals he will be in the next GTA, which will be in Liberty City again. BallerStatus. And thanks to iNero for his topic.

August 2013 Roger Clark's first day on set, for Red Dead Redemption 2
Roger Clark: "My first day on the project was in August of 2013. With the context of this particular installment, I was the first to come on, apart from Rob and Ben who worked on the previous chapter."
4th September 2014 Rockstar San Diego start hiring for next gen consoles. They allegedly went on a hiring spree for an upcoming project. Which we would later find out to be Red Dead Redemption 2.
December 11th 2014 Actor Jorge Consejo posts a selfie on Instagram, wearing a typical mocap or performance capture suit. However it doesn't match the one used in GTA V
September 2015, [Original Source] Rockstar started hiring for more jobs. They seem to relate to a stealth based game, but so far they haven't released anything that would indicate what they were hired for.
Then the leaks start happening...
November 29th 2015 An ex Rockstar employee hints that RDR2 is their next project. The infamous “Really, Dumbass. Really? Two“ comment by Danny Ross, on Reddit. Archive of actual post
April 13th 2016 the map for RDR 2 leaks on NeoGaf. This was unprecedented. The map for a huge open world Rockstar Games game has never leaked online 6 month before the game was even announced. Link to the map.
October 18th 2016 Rockstar finally announce Red Dead Redemption 2, after teasing in the days leading up to the 18th.
July 27th 2017 Stuntman, Tim Neff's online resume leaks that he worked on RDR2 and GTA VI. He denied involvement in RDR2, but claimed he worked on GTA V, and that it was a mistake. He also had personal instagram photos from Rockstar San Diego, with captions strongly suggesting he was there for work. He denied it, saying it was just a photo taken outside that anyone could take. He quickly removed them. He was not credited in GTA V, but by RDR2's release he is indeed credited in RDR2.
Friday September 29th 2017 A reddit user posted a thread mentioning a recent leak which had been deleted. I do not know the date that it was originally posted. But it was over a year before the game released. And was entirely accurate. these leaks will serve a purpose later on.
December 25th 2017 GTAForums User @Jabalous brings to our Attention the actor Jorge Consejo, his previously mentioned Instagram selfie, and his CV/Resume. Which mentions min being in GTA 6, playing the role "The Mexican" (Featured).
CGI meaning motion capture work, etc.
In April of 2018, I'm not sure of the date, maybe the 18th? The article has since been removed. But I copied the article into a notepad file. published an article based of a memo and some notes about the game. They claimed to have received this information in August 2017, but didn't post it due to fears it was fake. It wasn't until Rockstar released a screenshot that matched one that they had also received that they decided to publish this information, now believing it to be genuine. Here is an image of the text copy of the article (reddit formatting issues)
November 1st 2018 Rockstar sue TrustedReviews for £1M Essentially proving the leak to be true. Although the game itself proves it to be true, it's interesting that Rockstar sued for that much. Or sued at all.
January 6th 2019 Rockstar start hiring for next generation

January 30th (Specific date still debatable) Film Florida have guest Leah Sokolowsky on their podcast. She briefly mentions a recent change in her work
Recently as you're aware we've had a change in the types of productions that are coming to our state. So I've also been very fortunate to get a large client that has hired me to arrange basically site tours and visits. It's uh digital media company. And I've signed an NDA so I can't disclose who it is. But they've been exploring various areas of our state, and of other states in the south east. And I've been planning and arranging those visits for their personnel and that's been kind of a very interesting expansion of what I normally do, as well.
Here's the link to that quote.
It's suggested this is Take Two Interactive/Rockstar Games, as a reddit user claimed on October 6th 2019 scouts were looking around his area, and asked for permission to take photographs of the building. Which was later followed up by a photograph of an alledged document/contract as proof on October 8th 2019
-----------------------------------------------End of Unconfirmed Speculation-----------------------------------------------
February 13th 2019 VP of product development Jeronimo Barrera departs Rockstar Games after 20 years. This might not seem anything significant, but it's one of his quotes that I think it very important.
"If I had stayed at Rockstar it would have been more GTAs, more RDRs and less of this other stuff going on out there right now." While that is nothing concrete. It does indicate that Rockstar will be working on Red Dead and GTA for the foreseeable future. That won't surprise many of us, but it's just a little detail that gives us hope that GTA is next, and not another franchise like Bully, L.A. Noire or Max Payne, for example.
April 18th 2019 a former Rockstar India employee has mention of creating vehicles for GTA V and upcoming GTA 6 in his artstation resume Thanks to ApolloThunder's post.
Now those are the most important details I feel. Now I may have missed some other details people might find important. In August of 2017 the stunt actor Tim Neff was involved in a alleged leak for RDR2 & GTA 6. It was quickly 'debunked' Although many believed there were holes in the methods used to debunk it. And his removal of Instagram photos taken at Rockstar San Diego was suspicious to many users. I do not believe it holds enough water to use it as any evidence. But we can use it to speculate.
July 9th 2019 Jorge Consejo likes and quotes a tweet about him being in GTA 6

Now We Use All This Information to Speculate

The first clues we should look for are reports of Rockstar scouting locations. We know from articles and or interviews that Rockstar take thousands of photographs when creating their worlds, so any reports of Rockstar Staff i researching locations should be a very good indication. However, they can be very secretive.
Same goes for Rockstar or Take Two registering domain names or sending out casting calls. So far we've heard nothing of the sort. again, we don't always hear these things. I don't recall hearing anything about casting for RDR2 at any point between 2012 & 2016.
Combined with the fact that Rockstar only just released RDR2 4 months ago. I think it's pretty safe to sat development on their next game hasn't fully begun yet, or will do very soon. If we look back to the build log for GTA V, they created the first build on April 20th 2009. pretty much one year after GTA IV released. By that logic the first build for GTA VI would have been created in September 2014, right? Well, considering they had to work on the next gen and PC versions for so long. I'd wager they started much, much later. We know that these days Rockstar operate as Rockstar Studios, all working together on one game at a time. But if the NeoGaf user is to be believed, pre production for GTA VI began in 2012, which is actually entirely believable. As Rockstar began work on RDR2 almost immediately after RDR1. "In early 2011, Dan began chatting with Rockstar San Diego about how Red Dead Redemption 2 would look and who the characters would be. Late that summer, he says, he had a “broad outline and rough flow of the game defined.” By fall 2012, his team had completed rough scripts for many of the game’s missions and started doing read-throughs on video conference calls with directors of game play, art design, and animation from Rockstar offices around the world. " Source
Now, unlike Red Dead Redemption, Grand Theft Auto is not a game about specific characters, like RDR is with John and Dutch's gang. So It's safe to say after GTA V, the Housers did not sit down and come up with scripts or ideas for GTA 6 revolving around those characters. But never say never. They could use this as an opportunity to bring back Michael Franklin & Trevor, working of some of the ideas for the Story DLC for GTA V, instead of scrapping it entirely. For the first time ever, GTA could be a direct sequel using the same protagonists. This however, I believe to be incredibly unlikely. But I thought it was worth mentioning.
So, they've finished RDR2. What Are Rockstar doing now? I believe they're hard at work on the PC version of the game. Many people don't believe it will release on PC, citing the fact that RDR1 never released on PC as evidence. I don't believe that is fair, as we know RDR1 was a mess, and was in such a bad state that they were lucky to release it at all. Rumours and alleged leaks stated the game was a coded mess, and they weren't willing to go through all the hassle of porting it to PC. We also know PC games typically have a high paracy rate, and Rockstar aren't fond of spending all that development time and cost on such an effort for little reward. Here's a clip of Lazlow talking about releasing their games on PC, and joking wanting to make their money back first. It's from 2010, right before RDR1 released. I think he was making a joke, but hiding the truth in there. Which leads me to believe that RDR2 could come to PC, but in order to make their money on that, also release it on PS5 & the Next Xbox, like they did for GTA V. Considering the gap between GTA V on PS3 & 360 and GTA V on PC (19 months) we could see a similar gap with RDR2 on PC. If that is the case, we could see a PC release in May 2020. At which point next gen consoles would likely have been announced, assuming Sony repeat their February reveal as they did with PS4. Or soon to be revealed at E3 a month later. It's not beyond the realms of possibility that they re release on Next gen with native 4K on PS5, higher frame rates, or other enhanced features. Next gen consoles will be backwards compatible, but if they want to keep RD Online going, a newer version with higher player counts could be a good option.
Speaking of next gen consoles, until specs are set in stone, I don't think Rockstar will announce anything. Dev Kits are allegedly being sent to some developers right now. Sony first party studios are already working on PS5 games. Guerilla, for example. I'd wager Sony's relationship with Rockstar is a good bet to think they have them, too. So, what does this mean?
Well, let's look at when Rockstar announced RDR2. 18th October 2016. 18 months after the PC release of GTA V, 3 years, 1 month after the initial release of GTA V. Lets assume they stick to a similar pattern, both GTA V & RDR2 were announced in October. It could be a good bet for what month to expect an announcement. However, GTA IV was announced in May 2006, with Peter Moore's infamous Tattoo. So...
Now let's look at when Rockstar started hiring for RDR2, which was September 2014. It took them 2 years to announce their next game. And they had the base map planned out within 19 months. We just don't know when the photo of the map was taken, just when it was leaked to the public (april 2016). But we do know Rockstar always start with the world. For GTA V, that discussion started as GTA IV was wrapping up – almost five years ago – although the latest game has been in full production for just three years.
“It comes from the idea first,” Benzies tells us in his office at the studio.
Where is it going to be set is the first question. Then that defines the missions; you’re doing different things in LA than in New York or Miami. The map and story get worked up together, and the story is a basic flow of how it works out so you can layer the missions in. Source
I think we can safely say that Rockstar already know where the game will be set, and Aaron Garbut is already hard at work at creating a concept of a map. If he hasn't already.
Based of that information, I'd say Rockstar are hiring for their next game, which will be PS5 and Next Xbox exclusive, Likely to be GTA 6, and will need 2 - 3 years of development before they are able to reveal it with a trailer. Putting the game at a 2021 - 22 reveal, with a 2023 - 24 release. I do believe the upcoming generation, and Rockstars desire to outdo themselves every time will only slow them down. Their games take so long to develop, and I can't see them putting out GTA 6 in the same timeframe as GTA V, from GTA IV. More likely to be similar, if not longer than GTA V to RDR2.

The Leaks

Remember when I said the leaks would serve a purpose later on? I find it highly suspicious that Rockstar had leaks as substantial as they had for RDR2, when they never had anything to that level before. They are usually incredibly watertight. So let's speculate as to why...

The Benz.

Isn't it strange how such a long time influential figure at Rockstar North was fired, and then leaks start popping up for their next game? It's no secret that there was more to his firing that we initially thought. Things went really bad between The Benz and The Housers. I think when he left the company, and many of his staff left, too. A lot of disgruntled employees may has decided to spill the beans on their next game out of spite. The entire game map leaking 6 months before the game was even announced, Epilogue spoilers down to finite details such as building a house or birthing a foal? Way too specific, and that's never happened for a Rockstar game before. I just find that suspicious.
So, why is that relevant to GTA 6? Well, it may end up not being relevant at all. But then I remembered the leak from last year, that stated GTA 6 was set in Vice City. Back then, I didn't believe it at all, as it was way too detailed for a game that wasn't even announced, and wouldn't be announced for at least 2 more years. Likely double that. Plus why did they choose The Know? And an anonymous source is always suspicious. But hey, nobody would be dumb enough to give their actual identity if it were legit.
But then I started thinking a while ago, at how detailed the RDR2 leaks were, and maybe, just maybe the person who tipped off The Know was legit, and the info was based of what was in pre production from 2012 [Unofficial Source]. The more I thought about it, I realized that Vice City, with the concept of crossing the border to South America is a simple enough concept that could have been decided upon during pre production (the world is the first thing they decide, remember?)

Why Vice City

2 reasons why it's starting to feel like a likely location. Reason one, GTA Online. They introduced businesses and gunrunning into GTA Online, and a lot of people enjoy that stuff. Vice City would be a great location to create content around that concept. I don't believe Rockstar would pick a location based on what would make Online popular, but after GTA Online's huge popularity after GTA V, they'd be stupid to ignore it. Reason 2 was the quote Dan Houser gave about not releasing GTA 6 during Trumps presidency. Again, I believe it's taken a little out of context, but it's his words about satirising America is what caught my eye.
"Both intense liberal progression and intense conservatism are both very militant, and very angry. It is scary but it’s also strange, and yet both of them seem occasionally to veer towards the absurd," Houser said. "It’s hard to satirize for those reasons. Some of the stuff you see is straightforwardly beyond satire. It would be out of date within two minutes, everything is changing so fast." Source
Then there was this quote from Leslie Benzies, also covered in The Knows video:
IGN Source
Any chance that Vice City might return in a future GTA?
It is always a possibility. There are a few references to the city in our current-gen GTAs so it is part of that HD universe, and it is certainly somewhere we would love to revisit. However Vice City, perhaps more than any other GTA game, was as much about the era as the setting. Miami in the 1980’s is so iconic it would feel strange to revisit the city in a different time period.
exploring grand theft auto vice citys lasting impact on gamer culture with rockstars leslie benzies city cover. Of course at some point we would like to have one big world containing all our cities and let the player fly between them and revisit their favorite areas, and in that context reimagining Vice City would be very interesting.
So according to Rockstar, albeit someone who is no longer at Rockstar, it would be strange to go back to Vice City in a modern day setting. If you combine that with what Dan Houser said about parodying America today, and how difficult that would be, is it possible that the next game could be set in the past? Again, combining those quotes, with alleged leaks, and the possibility for fun and exciting gameplay and Online experiences... Vice City is an incredibly likely setting.
The only problem is GTA 6 going into pre production in 2012. If the location was decided upon then. It would either be a happy coincidence, or they may have changed the location. Or, it never was Vice City, and this speculation is clever, but ultimately wrong.
One key piece of information is the Neogaf user, who allegedly states that it WON'T be Vice City. Citing that production notes going around when he still worked there stated possible locations and concepts. And that it is likely one of the 4 options listed in the quoted thread.
Small town gta - tight stories, scheduled characters, ridiculous levels of ambience, every home interior modelled. Every building enterable. More realism - if your wanted you are on the run for a while.
Vegas 1970s- CASINO?
Somewhere snowy - chicago/detroit
Mexico City
You have to consider that what they may have decided in 2012 changed, due to the popularity of GTA Online. They could have chosen a smaller, more detailed interactive world. But due to Online, decided they needed a larger world. Or the location wasn't right due to modern politics and ability to satarise, etc.
I do think GTA could return to the past eventually. Sam Houser has an incredible knowledge of pop culture, and is very intelligent. It would work well for them to go back to an older setting for a GTA game again. That isn't proof of that, or even a solid reason for them to do a prior setting. His knowledge can be used in any setting, past or present. But it's an interesting piece of information to think about.
Another possibility is Dan's words were as simple as GTA 6 won't release while Trump is in office, and therefore GTA 6 will be set in the present day, but by then the political climate may have settled down, or they think/hope things will be different by then, and what they choose to parody will be easier. i don't know.

How about Las Venturas?

For the past few months, I've been thinking about the possibility of GTA 6 being set in Las Venturas. It's one of the locations mentioned as a possibility by @Ash_735 It's also a location that would be quite large, although not hugely diverse. However creative freedoms could solve that. If they return to a past setting as theorised. Then Las Venturas in the 70's or 80's could be seen as a pretty cool option. Like a lot of people, I'm a fan of Joe Rogan. Recently he had a guest on his podcast, Bob lazar. Whether you believe him or not is irrelevant. But he tells some interesting stories about working near Area 51, and working on alien UFO's. that really got me thinking... Wouldn't that be a perfect location for Rockstar to have some fun with? GTA V and RDR2 both featured UFO easter Eggs. There was a lot of mysteries tied to Mt. Chiuliad and Fort Zancudo. Can you imagine Area 69 returning, and what Rockstar may do with that? Now I fully understand that saying they may do a certain location, based of nothing other than easter eggs is a bit silly, but what else do we have? However, it does tie in with the notes (Vegas 1970's Casino?). Before RDR2 we never believed Rockstar would create a game, and build of a previous games map. After RDR2, we now know it's possible. I'm still not convinced they'd do it with GTA, as the GTA series is always an island, whereas RDR1 was a landlocked location. However, it is possible, however unlikely that they could build of Southern San Andreas and go east to Las venturas.

"Chillwave" turns 10 years old today

Chillwave turns 10 years old today. Chillwave is curiously well-known among indieheads as a term but also somewhat misunderstood, maligned, and neglected. In the wake of this anniversary I began writing about it’s origins, it’s run from 2009-2011 and it’s subsequent influence on indie electronic music and indie music overall since.
Part of this plan was to highlight the big four - not three - artists key to it’s sound: Washed Out, Toro Y Moi, Neon Indian and Memory Tapes. In particular I wanted to set forward the case that Dayve Hawk’s run as Weird Tapes/Memory Cassette/Memory Tapes was not only crucial to the genre but arguably encapsulated it the best. I also wanted to flesh out the tangled web of various artists and genres closely related and essential to chillwave emergence instead of the usual focus of the handful of core musicians mentioned above that so many features have relied on. Phillip Sherburne’s 2010 article is a good example of what I mean by expanding on the list of music related to chillwave.
Ian Cohen’s amazing feature on chillwave from June 25 took much of the wind out of the sails of my motivation to write about chillwave, but I nonetheless wrote out an grand overview of sorts which I’ve posted below. It would of been the first part of a series of more detailed and likely less verbose essays broken up in sections: proto-chillwave music before 2009, a section on each of the ‘big four,’ another with notable mentions, and a section about everything since 2011. If you are interested I can write and post these over the next few weeks or months, along with playlists.
Exactly 10 years ago “chillwave” was established as a genre, coined July 27, 2009 on the infamous blog Hipster Runoff in a quintessentially snarky yet borderline insightful post by Carles. It was a flash-in-the pan moment, albeit a substantive one long enough to sustain itself for over a year, culminating in SXSW showcases and the “summer of chillwave” in 2010. Discussion of chillwave online outlasted the overt participation of it’s core artists: in 2011 Memory Tapes, Toro Y Moi, Washed Out, and Neon Indian effectively bowed out from the genre’s main tropes, each releasing a ‘post-chillwave’ album of sorts as they moved on into their own artistic directions.
Only in hindsight can it be said that chillwave occupies a truly unique existence as a genre, an existence that can not be compared to earlier scenes or movements nor expected of trends to emerge in the years ahead. These musicians were united under a genre they neither embraced nor rejected. There was never a “scene” in any geographical manner, or even in a virtual sense as there has been with vaporwave. It was never as vague or nebulous as the “glo-fi” or “hypnagogic pop” style descriptors that have aptly been applied to artists that have both preceded and succeeded chillwave. In terms of legacy it was neither unfairly dismissed, despite its influence, the way witch-house was, nor is it a all-but-forgotten microgenre footnote in late 00s / early 10s history the way seapunk or wonky are.
It can be argued that at its core chillwave is a contrived label, a means of distinguishing it’s artists from it’s underground cousins glo-fi and hypnagogic pop and likewise arbitrarily categorizing specific musicians who fall under more comprehensive genres of synthpop, and electronic, and even broader styles of “dream pop” or “indie electronic.” It's no coincidence that an earnest effort by Pitchfork to dedicate a website, Altered Zones, to the varied yet broadly related minutiae of such underground artists and labels, was similarly doomed from the start, lasting just over year. The dilemma of genrewave. In fact if there’s one incessant footprints of chillwave it’s the ushering of vague hashtag styles, everything from Spotify’s ham-fisted “fluxwork” and “escape room” nonsense to lofi chillout hiphop beats to study to youtube playlists.
The real legacy of chillwave’s moment in the sun from 2009-2011 was bridging the gap between unabashed lo-fi weirdness of underground scenes and bedroom producers and more established producers making slick, more cautionary electronic pop and dance music. Before 2010 pop tended to be retro-informed, not explicitly retro-styled. The novelty of overt retro sounds of past music, especially from the late 70s to late 80s era chillwave drew from, were no longer cheap style nods made in the name of irony or gimmick but instead sincerely embraced by chillwave artists. There were plenty of 90s and 00s retro-minded music projects delving into overtly “summer” sounds but they worked within confines: ambient house groups KLF, The Orb, and Global Communication, l the critically acclaimed yet leftfield IDM projects Boards of Canada, Casino Versus Japan, and Freescha, Beck’s cheeky and gimmicky postmodern pop, Bjork’s diverse song stylings on her debut album, the shimmery warm ambient sounds within shoegaze and dream pop like later era Cocteau Twins and Slowdive or Yo La Tengo’s “Today Is The Day”, exotica and lounge music revival via Stereolab, Pizzicato Five and the Ultra Lounge compilations. The list goes on. It wasn’t until Panda Bear’s Person Pitch in 2007 and a string of releases by Sun Araw, L.A. Vampires, and Ducktails (many via the L.A. area label Not Not Fun) in the same timeframe that proto-typical chillwave took form as it did across the Atlantic via neo-disco and Bearlic Beat influenced bands Air France, The Tough Alliance, Studio and The Embassy. While not directly influencing the core chillwave artists directly (for the most part, Memory Tapes was contacted by Air France and later remixed them) they warmed up indie audiences to the vibe so central to chillwave’s general sound.
Despite the litany of precursors and influences, it was nonetheless the core chillwave artists that firmly and finally injected unabashed retro and vintage aesthetics and styling into indie music. Part of it was a lack of commercial liability in terms of appeal - mp3 blogs and social media pages cut the middleman of distro and major indie PR and let bedroom production and it’s DIY ethos get buzz far more immediately. They didn’t try to work within existing genres. They didn’t just drawn on old samples for a melodic hook or one-off song, they made it core to their musical output. The tape warbled, lo-fi samples of Boards of Canada could be coupled with pop vocals. Tropical sounds and instrumentation didn’t have to be in the form of instrumental downtempo electronica or chillout rave music. The utter experimental tendencies of hypnagogic pop like James Ferraro or Ariel Pink could be dialed down without losing any of its core weirdness and retro-sylings. It’s no coincidence that Best Coast - Bethany Cosentino’s surf rock-tinged summery garage rock project that paralleled chillwave’s emergence in 2009 - split off of Pocohaunted, another lynchpin in LA’s hypnagogic pop scene.
In other words the vast treasure trove of past music to sample or emulate was truly opened up as a viable option for indie musicians without hesitation or constraint. It help revitalize psych rock and dream pop. It’s not a stretch to say acts like M83 or Tame Impala would not have produced their unabashedly retro-tinged albums of the last decade. There wouldn’t be such mainstream appeal of media like Stranger Things and it’s soundtrack. The entire scope and direction of EDM in the 2010s toward a blender of genres it is now would have likely remained stratified and categorized in specific styles and tempos à la house, trance, techno, drum and bass, etc. as they were in the 2000s and earlier.
Chillwave isn’t alone in bearing responsibility for this, but it certainly stands out as a key example. One other genre comes to mind in it’s similarly rise and fall and subsequent pollination of vast influence and derivatives: dubstep. It bubbled within the electronic music communities and, ironically, already moving past it’s core sound when it exploded in popularity around 2009-2010. “Post-dubstep” and “bass music” succeeded it with much longer lifespans. Quirky and (and in the case of ‘brostep’ controversial) offshoots like wonky, future garage, future bass, etc. developed into their own subgenres and launched successful careers and scores of releases, niche, labels and flourishing live scenes. It’s the sea of divergent styles and trends that dubstep and chillwave released that make them so important, because once seen in the confines of their own limited scope in terms of time and place they seem far less significant. It’s often a mixed legacy as well, for every critically acclaimed song or album in the wake of dubstep and chillwave there’s a plethora of competent, decent yet nonetheless cookie cutter, middle of the road derivative tracks and releases, complete with equally slick and homogeneous imagery. EDM and major indie electronic acts with crowd-pleasing “bass drops” and “chill vibes” are undeniably appealing, even if their music might fall flat of brilliance or progression.
The meta-cultural discussion of chillwave previewed a decade or instantaneous commentary on music and the seamless injection of public reception on the same level as established media outlets. Fan hype outdoing PR marketing, a formerly published review getting less online traction than twitter memes. Despite perception of dismissal or eyebrow-raising chillwave spurred features and think pieces, and then subsequent features about chillwave features and think pieces, many of which came out years after the genre died out. It had one foot in the dying days of mp3 blogs and nascent social media pages like myspace, and another foot in social media outlets like instagram and twitter. This kind of transition occurred in other ways: Washed Out’s cassette release of High Times in 2009, a literal nod to retro aesthetics, foreshadowed the unexpected revival of cassette tapes years later, bringing it from its role as a cheap niche format for underground noise and experimental acts into a vinyl and CD alternative for many a major indie label label. It’s a fitting physical parallel to chillwave as an ethos - tape hiss, wow and flutter, dropouts, etc. were embraced for their warmth and nostalgic appeal and incorporated into music that where laptop DAWs like Ableton and immediate online samples could be gleaned from the internet. The fusion of vintage sound with modern production has been a key part of retro-fetishim and the embrace of physical analog media in indie music has brought it full circle.
The most striking thing about chillwave may be the fact that it’s still considered a genre at all. I don’t mean this flippantly or in regard to its merits but rather it’s extremely unusual place in recent music history. It may very well be the last music genre to be coined, adopted by successor artists, well-publicized and hyped, and subsequently cited with a concise but nonetheless clear timeline. Everything post-2010 has been either relegated to microgenres coined by journalists and fans, self-described more broadly as a vibe or style or movement or collective (cloud and mumble rap, deconstructed club, PC Music) or simply lumped as experimental or progressive acts within well-established genres and scenes. It could be argued Vaporwave holds this title, and notably it kicked off with Daniel Lopatin’s ‘sunsetcorp’ youtube videos in the same summer of 2009 (albeit with much less initial traction), but it has been a far more open-ended, broad, and perpetually redefined scene and movement with far more indirect influence and less mainstream awareness. It’s more of a nascent internet / virtual scene, a “post-genre” music movement even. Perhaps chillwave itself is “post-genre,” after all, as mentioned earlier it had no firm geographic center, not one of its original artists openly embraced the term, and it’s rise and fall was arguably a completely contrived narrative by the collective internet hive mind of artists, fans, and journalists. Regardless of what chillwave was, is, and will be - fad, trend, genre, movement - it can’t be denied or downgraded from it’s infamy and place in 21st century pop music, a window into the shift from postmodern pop remaining stratified and categorized in the 90s and early 00s to the rise of healthy niche microgenres and underground scenes...and, hopefully, truly hybrid and even inscrutable styles of progressive and groundbreaking pop music being produced in the decades to come. Or maybe not, and if so we can at least appreciate the fact that we can throw on “Feel It All Around” for summers to come.
Some discussion questions:
When did you first hear about chillwave?
Favorite artists / releases?
Favorite of the 'big four' ? (Memory Tapes, Neon Indian, Washed Out, Toro Y Moi)
Is chillwave still a "genre" and apt style descriptor for music made in 2019?
What are some underrated / overlooked artists or releases indieheads should check out?
Should I keep writing about chillwave? (FYI this was the most abstract essay, I plan to write more informal guides / overviews about the music itself.)
Edit 3: THANKS FOR SILVER! I feel like a reddit Olympian or something

(The) Great Crisis

This is how we are taught how to speak in spiraling circles by the Heptapods - how they give us the key spells:
'Greater crisis' looms: 38 doctors plea for non-Covid health care resources
Forget for now that 38 is the number of 'gematria', and of 'change', and of 'death' and 'fire'.
See the quoted phrase (where the deeper level of introductory keys dwell)?
Reduce it:
  • "Great Crisis" = 2016 squares
This was the year the film Arrival released, about 'aliens' (it's a metaphor) giving humanity a new corona-shaped language that flattens the curve of time itself.
A minor connection we can make here is that the spell 'mathematics of the circle' = 216 in basic alphabetic (which is the value of 6x6x6 - which is not much, except for the fact that 'mathematics of the circle' also sums to 666 in the jewish-latin-agrippa cipher
More important than the square cipher match above, for I believe the hierarchy of mathematical ciphers is: primes > trigonal (triangular numbers) > squares (square numbers) ... is the following:
  • "Great Crisis" = 474 jewish-latin-agrippa
That result alone being enough to tell you the editors of those newspaper headlines know what they are doing. The particular cipher is perhaps just as high-ranking as the primes cipher, and the number itself, 474, ranks up there, in my opinion, with 911 and 1234 as primary keys to the 'English system' of encodings.
Why 474?
  • "I wonder why?" = 474 primes ( ... indeed)
  • ... ( "Numerology" = 474 primes )
  • ... ( "The Equality" = 474 primes ) [ this equals that ]
  • ... ( "The Frequency" = 474 primes ) [ of things and times, of light and sound ]
  • "I wonder why?" = 474 primes ( ... indeed)
  • ... ( "The Illuminati" = "Numerology" = 474 primes ) [illuminated text / spell spectra]
  • ... ( "The Great Emergence" = 474 primes ) [ Greta just before Great Corona ]
  • ... ( ... .. "Great Pattern" = 474 primes )
  • "Great Crisis" = 474 jewish-latin-agrippa
Crisis @ Crucis @ Crux @ Cross @ Crucible
  • "Crucible" = 322 jewish-latin-agrippa | 555 trigonal | 218 primes [ 73 | 37 reduced ]
  • .. ('counting', 'full name', 'to know', 'the proof' | 'enter the court' | 'monarch', 'marriage', 'death' | 'number')
Next up we see we have the classic number of the Coronvirus, 56 (outside of the obvious, ask the other gematria tinfoil hats how this number is one of the most leading and visible in the coronavirus stories, and see my recent post history).
  • "Great Crisis" = 56 reduced
  • "Coronavirus" = 56 reduced
Next up is a number I have never given enough attention to in all the years of this forum, but it remains utterly crucial as a primary key... hence in the primes cipher:
  • "Great Crisis" = 408 primes [ "26 Letters" = 408 jewish-latin-agrippa ]
... which is a 48 with sigil of zero, signalling a central circular crowning corona (ie. eclipse of the sun)
For 48 is the number of the "Ring" and the "Spinning" "Ouroboros" (which is a circular, ring-shaped dragon/serpent sigil, a major esoteric touchstone). Number 48 also reflects in the word 'Live', and all it's loaded anagrams, 'Evil', 'Vile', 'Veil'... and also 'Sex' and 'Crime'. The name 'Illuminati' reduces to 48 (ie. a catch-all title for the one 'secret circle').
Noting that the number 48, via Rule of Colel joins 47 (ie. 'time', the 'orthodox' 'foundation' of 'the circle') and 49 (ie. the 'green' language of pi) as key numbers signalling circular concepts.
  • 'secret circle' = 'illuminati' = 'alphabet song' = 120 basic alphabetic ( "O" = 120 trigonal )
  • ... "1 secret circle" = 369 primes | 121 basic alphabetic ( "circle" = 120 jewish-latin-agrippa)
  • "The Alphabet Code" = 369 primes
  • "Great Crisis" = 408 primes
  • ... "four zero eight" = "four eight zero" = 555 primes (408 and 480)
We also have, in "Great Crisis", a 128 in basic alphabetic ("brotherhood") and a magnification of 28 days later, moon cycle indicator.
Number 28 is one of a very small list of key numbers that sums to 156 when written out as words (the 156th prime is 911).
Then we can comment of the importance (and spell-magifying feature) of the initials - G.C. - of the spell 'Great Crisis'.
The letters G, C, and K (and Ch, leading to other letters) are all from the same original and have a shared weight. Letters of impact and power.
Furthermore, G is 7th and C is 3rd, and thus we have a critical 73 code.
Software developers might recognize GC as Garbage Collection technology, and this is a multi-layered allegory.
Number 73 (that is, EL, upside-down) is one of the major gateways into this study of alphabetic numerology
See: /GeometersOfHistory/wiki/spellcomponents/73 ('count' = 'number' = 'perfect', ask Sheldon)
Now, the augment with the definite article, THE:
  • "The Great Crisis" = 161 basic alphabetic
Here we have the classic golden ratio signal (1.61 is the first three digits of the golden ratio, which can be more accurately written as 1.618...).
We note that "Symbolic" = 1,618 squares
The golden ratio implies 'perfect ideal proportion' in nature, and thus 'beauty':
  • "The Goddess Venus" = 1,618 trigonal
  • ... "Symbolic" = "Geography" = 1,618 squares [ noting 'geo' comes from 'gaia' or 'ge': earth goddess)
For long I have spoken of 'Coronavirus' being twisty wordplay, for, amongst other things, "Crown 'o' Venus'.
We will return to this result and examine what it implies when we remove or alter the artificial captialization of the initial letters of the words, as seen above.
Connecting to our 73 result above, we see a confirmation and clincher of the entire argument, because we have
  • "The Great Crisis" = 1,333 trigonal
This tells us that the crisis itself has everything to do with...
  • "The Number" = 333 primes
... the core crisis of revelation that must needs be covered up by planned propagandistic...
  • "Dancing Plague" = 333 primes
You will notice that I made sure to post this thread itself at exactly 13:33 UTC to make the point of ritual behaviour driven by numbers.
See: /GeometersOfHistory/wiki/spellcomponents/333 ('The Religion', 'The Temple', 'Pregnant')
Now, if we alter or remove entirely the capitalization (complete remove brings us down to the 'basics', one might say - plain speech).
  • "the great crisis" = 161 basic alphabetic | 322 baconis
This is a guaranteed pairing for all-lower-caps 161 results, and core of a major article of mine dealing with the golden ratio and 161/322.
I think you will find the spell 'the great crisis' will fit in well with other example spells found on that page.
Another quick example of scripting - climbing the kabbalistic tree of life:
At a forest school in Borneo, baby orangutans learn tree-climbing skills from their human surrogate parents. The orphans spend 12 hours a day in the forest, preparing for a new life in the wild.
  • "coronavirus" = "forest school" = 155 basic alphabetic
  • ... "ventilators" = 155 basic alphabetic [ to save us, part 1 ]
  • ... "ultraviolet" = 155 basic alphabetic [ to save us, part 2 ]
I made a joke about orange trump, recently, and 'baby orangutan' has an interesting double 464 pattern.
Alphabetic ciphers intro:
Wiki index:
See it:
  • "You are seeing it happen now" = 911 primes
PS. do not fall any further for 'e-living', 'e-commerce', 'e-government' and any form of 'digital trust system' - retract yourself from that trap:
  • "The Second Wave" = 1,911 jewish-latin-agrippa
... might be used to try and convince you it's a good idea - but you are too smart for that.
Just say no.
  • "The Slaves" = 1019 jewish-latin-agrippa ( "Master Plan" = 119 alphabetic )
  • ... "The Vision" = 1019 trigonal ( "All-seeing Eye" = 119 alphabetic )
  • ... "The Pattern" = 1109 trigonal ( "The Pyramid" = 119 alphabetic )
  • ... .. ( "Eye" = 119 primes ) ( "Divine Rule" = 119 alphabetic )
  • .
  • "The Slaves" = 111 basic alphabetic | 666 sumerian
  • "Humanity" = 111 basic alphabetic | 666 sumerian
  • ... .. .. ... ( "Citizen" = 666 jewish-latin-agrippa )
Q: ?
"A: You are the slave" = 1,666 jewish-latin-agrippa
In the midst of this crisis, some cities have already begun doing so by closing roads to cars to create room for bicyclists and socially distanced pedestrians, [...]
  • "socially distanced pedestrians" = 1,333 jewish-latin-agrippa | 4741 squares
Q :?
"A: socially distanced pedestrians" = 969 primes ("Matrix Code" = 969 trigonal)
Q: ?
"A: help stop the coronavirus" = 969 primes ("Mind Power" = 969 trigonal)
Q: ?
A cover up and justification of the dubious activities of false kings, and obfuscating the arrival of ...
  • "The Tyrannosaurus Rex" = 969 primes
Again: do not fall any further for 'e-living', 'e-commerce', 'e-government' and any form of 'digital trust system':
"Coronavirus Conspiracy" = 911 primes
Prepare for cell-tower attacks by 5G/COVID-19 conspiracy theorists, US warns
  • "5G/COVID-19 conspiracy theorists" = 1,911 sumerian | 331 alphabetic | 1033 primes
The wiser conspiracy theorists brings the truth:
  • "Conspiracy Theorist" = 773 primes
  • ... ( "Lightbearer" = 773 trigonal)
  • ... ( "Lightbearer" = 317 jewish-latin-agrippa )
  • ... ( .. "The Message" = 317 primes )
  • ... ( .. "The Show" = 317 primes )
  • ... ( .. "Key of David" = 317 primes )
...and as mentioned multiple times previously - no, the virus does not travel though the 5G networks - rather, the coronavirus and the 5G networks are both metaphors for the same underlying truth.
From this day forth, ye shall see the Lovecraftian madness in every news headlines and in the eyes of the talking heads.
Harken no more to the dread words of those lying monsters. They read scripts, and they wear masks, and they are trying to get you to do the same, to create mindless stormtroopers out of you.
C <- K ... ( and MASK is thus an anagram for SCAM )
All sides agree ("Star Wars" = 119 basic alphabetic):
"take off the mask - you don't need it" -- Han Solo (light side of the force)
"Take that ridiculous thing off" - Snoke (dark side of the force)
"Alas, you're just a child in a mask" - Snoke (dark side of the force)
In the second last Star Wars film, the protagonists travel to... the planet Cantonica, an arid planet where the resort city of Canto Bight, home of the Canto Casino and Racetrack, is located. They travel there to find the Master Codebreaker, who will help them crack Imperial access codes (and end up returning with a thief who is also capable with codebreaking).
Why these names?
Because Thieves Cant
A cant is the jargon or language of a group, often employed to exclude or mislead people outside the group
It may also be called a cryptolect, argot, anti-language or secret language.
So, Canto Casino on planet Cantonica:
ie. Argot + Tonic / Cant + Tonic ...
  • "Society" = 911 trigonal
  • ... "Church" = "Tonic" = 911 squares
  • "Coronavirus Conspiracy" = 911 primes [ "Coronavirus Religion" = 2020 trigonal ]
  • "Society" = 911 trigonal
  • ... "The Toppling Tower" = 1,911 trigonal ( "The Crowning Venus" = 1,911 trigonal )
  • ... ( ... "Toppling Tower" = "The Official Narrative" = 617 primes )
Gambling with Thieve's Cant:
  • "Citizen" = 777 trigonal
  • "Numeric Ritual" = 777 jewish-latin-agrippa
  • "Sick Joke" = "To Cure the Flu" = 777 jewish-latin-agrippa
  • "The Coronavirus Vaccine" = 777 primes
  • .... ( "Control" = 343 jewish-latin-agrippa ) [ 7x7x7 = 343 ]
The secret of 'cant' is also contained in the name of the central planet of the entire Star Wars franchise:
The planet Coruscant was code-named Triple Zero during the Clone Wars.
Triple Three - "Three Zero" = 393 primes (ie. accurate, count, accountancy)
The final key to cant is that, in the Star Wars film featuring the 'Master Codebreaker', the protagonists are told by their friend Maz (ie. Mother A-Z):
"You'll find him with a red plom bloom on his lapel, rolling at a high stakes table in the casino on Canto Bight."
... the very core-ona of ...
  • "The Number" = 333 primes
  • "The High Stakes" = "Great Crisis" = 2016 squares (and we've come full circle) (King Arthur - 'Run Londinium')

RT Rundown March 28, 2020 - April 3, 2020

Hey community! I’m here today to give a rundown of everything Rooster Teeth related that has happened in the past week. This is something I had been considering starting for some time now, and with the influx of content in the past week from the 17th anniversary and the at home streams on RTTV, this seemed like a great time to start. I know that previously we had the RT Recap and multiple community-member ran revivals of it, but despite the fact that these other projects have ended I think we could still use something like this to help keep track of everything that’s going on. Please leave me feedback about how I’ve set this up, I want this to be as helpful as I can possibly make it!
This post lists everything Rooster Teeth has released and announced from March 28, 2020 to April 3, 2020. Excluding the news section, the organization of this post follows the order of the links on the sidebar on the Rooster Teeth website. First exclusive content is surrounded in asterisks ( *EXAMPLE*) while content that is currently exclusive but will be available publicly later is followed by an asterisk and the date in which it will be free (EXAMPLE*Free April 11th.) This does not include content that will lose exclusivity on the day this post is made (April 4th) as I personally found including this information to be over complicating the post. Similarly, to simplify the post I have only included links to the RT website even in scenarios where the content is available on another platform.
